I have difficulty when dancing, flowing from one movement to the next. What do you recommend for feeling more graceful, and making your moves flow seamlessly?

A compilation of beautiful classical Egyptian dancers. Here’s a challenge: Without looking at the video description, can you name all the dancers featured in this video?

While some can be good at belly dance within months, others may take a year or so. The answer to your question depends on you. What would you define as good? Is good mastering the basic movements or the more advanced movements? Is it being able to improvise flawlessly? Is it being able to dance non-stop for 20 minutes without tiring?
Whatever “good” means for you, you’ll need to dedicate time and energy to belly dance in order to improve. You will also need a teacher to guide you along the way, to challenge you, and to let you know if you’re becoming better dancer.
Myself, I’ve been learning belly dance since 2009. I performed for the first time in March 2012. I finally felt like I could dance for an audience. After that, I received praises and critiques from other belly dancers. I finally feel like I’m good enough because I spent so much time practicing, drilling, and learning. However, I want to go beyond that which means more practicing, drilling, and learning.

No worries! I’m happy I can help!
You can almost emulate a flutter by doing really quick abdominal contractions, but you won’t quite get the speed that you’d have by generating it with your diaphragm, it almost feels like laughing or sobbing, I can feel it quite a bit in my throat. This way it’s a bit easier (once you get the hang of it) and you’ll eventually be able to layer it with abdominal isolations, like undulations or rolls—both of which look incredible!

The abs actually shouldn’t be doing anything in a flutter. They should relax completely.Thank you for the correction. I’m still trying to master it myself. This is why I enable answers.

how do i get my arms to be graceful??!!
Shira offers helpful information regarding arms: Expressive Arms
Pay close attention the Drill section, particularly Drill #3. She mentions focusing on making your arms soft and fluid. Most importantly: DRILL. Consistent practice is necessary to master a movement.

How can you make your flutter stronger?
Simple answer: Practice, practice, and practice some more. It helps if you have strong upper abs but with other belly dance moves, that’s required anyway. So, drill that sucker.
