Question For My Belly Dance Siblings
Have you ever encountered/seen a dancer who has come from a different background and doesn’t seem to fully GET that this dance is COMPLETELY different than most other dance forms out there?
I have a dancer in my troupe, who is the SWEETEST woman in the world (albeit a BIT ditsy but a good woman all the same), but no matter what myself or my Director try to teach her, nothing seems to STICK. My teacher has been trying for nearly a year to get one of the BASIC level one ats moves to stick and it’s just not working.
She and i both have been trying to give her advice, but we both feel that it’s going over her head (or at least most of the fast moves are). We would hate to exclude her from the songs that have faster moves (since the one major show that is coming up in less than a month has a lot of faster moves) but unless by some MIRACLE the moves start sticking we’re going to have to.
Does anyone have any advice on how to make it stick?

I’m wondering why she’s been selected as a troupe member if she can’t execute movements clearly…

It is harder to go from ballet, jazz, etc to this dance. Always practice, everyone learns at a different pace, and unfortunately when their is a group class the dance has to work for everyone, but if not she is the one that might have to pay for it.

The only thing I can think of is just to have her repeat the moves for a while. I know how she feels though. I hope she gets the moves.
